A new approach...
Well it has taken me a few years to figure out what I might use this blog for and in that time it has transitioned over and again from a private discussion forum, to a network blog, to a place to write anything for anyone, to a church blog.
Prior to this I have spent most of my time writing by blog worthy stuff on the church's web site. That would be at http://thedistillerychurch.org. At this point there has really been no reason to blog elsewhere.
But, I am realizing as of late that maybe my stuff is not necessarily the church's stuff, or maybe my writings have nothing at all to do with the church. Maybe also I need to write more than I do, and it could be quite possible that a church blog has limited my writing over the years to just one post a week (at most).
I have owned Indiefaith.org for a few years now and have never really advertised it or used it as a blog, but this unique kind of faith is what I have to blog about isn't it? I mean all of the things I know -- all the things I have learned as of late have come from a life lived independently from the institution, the status quo, the traditional structures and systems of the modern church.
Instead, I am a copastor of a unique little faith community of people that believe that a faith lived is a faith talked about. I am a member of a community that discusses the scriptures rather than accepts someone else's interpretation of them. I belong to a family of people that, like me, are not willing to accept the traditional explanations to most things regarding faith and God.
Likewise I am a father, a son, a brother, friend, a husband and a grandfather. These experiences are hard to mesh out in the midst of a church blog centered on spirituality.
Because of these unique affiliations I have with the world around me, I have something to say about it. I am growing and learning and experiencing God in ways that can only be explained as a result of living out this unique way of doing life -- the indie-faith way.
So, as a result I am turning this blog into my very own personal repository of ideas, thoughts, notions, observations and experiences that come from my unique approach to faith, family and community.
I hope you enjoy what you read here and likewise you participate with me through further conversation on the posts and topics offered here. All that being said, I am deleting everything prior to this post and starting new tonight.
